Causes Of Adolescent Drug Use

It is not easy to pinpoint any one basic cause. The causes are variable, dependent upon the individual and the circumstance. For some, it's an escape from troubled home life, or a lack of love and attention, or rebellion against the Establishment; For others, it's acceptance in the "group" or an urge to try something new.

Contrary to popular belief, the typical abuser does not obtain his/her drugs from a slinking peddler or "pusher" furtively lurking in the shadows of a school. Most get their supply from their own circle of friends.

Symptoms Of Possible Drug Use

A child will display more than one of the following symptoms when experimenting with drugs. Please keep in mind that any number of these symptoms could be the result of a physical disorder.

1. Dramatic change in behavior, character or attitude.

2. Loss of interest in hobbies, sports, and other activities.

3. Dropping grades; skipping school.

4. New group of friends.

5. Secretive or vague about whereabouts.

6. Spend money and nothing to show for it.

7. Sudden carelessness or change in appearance.
